UPSC Prelims Pattern and Syllabus
Being the first stage of the exam, prelims consist of objective-type questions where answers are marked on OMR sheets. The duration of the exam is 2 hours for each section. UPSC prelims cum mains test series prepares you to qualify for the next stage, which is the Mains exam.
The first section of the exam is general studies (paper 1), and the second section is the Civil Services Aptitude Test (CSAT). CSAT is also referred to as general studies – paper 2. Both the sections carry 200 marks each. Syllabus of the test as follows:

UPSC Mains Exam Pattern and Syllabus
UPSC mains in the second stage which is divided into part A and Part B. Candidate has to choose one Indian language compulsorily for part A. 48 optional subjects are available for part B of the UPSC mains exam. Part B is further subdivided into 8 papers. Paper 1 is an essay; paper 2 to 5 is concerned with general studies. Paper 6 and 9 is about the optional subject. The time duration for all 9 papers of the UPSC mains exam is 3 hours each. The exam follows a typical question-answer format where the answers need to be descriptive.
